Figueres
Figueres is mostly known as a native city of the great Spanish painter Salvador Dali. He was born here in 1904.
We went there to visit Theatre-Museum of Salvador Dali. He built this theatre for his own money on the place of destroyed
old theatre of the city. It has very special appearance.
The museum contains a broad-ranging collection of works illustrating the artistic career of Salvador Dali (1904-1989),
from his earliest works and his surrealist period up to the creations of the last years of his life. The museum also
contains a number of works by other artists, selected by Dali: El Greco, Maria Fortuny, Modest Urgell, Ernest Meissonier
and others.
The museum has spacious yard. In the center of it the sculpture"Rainy Cadillac" stands. This is one of
the works, produced by Dali especially for the Theatre-Museum.
There are a lot of mechanical exhibits inside the museum. You need to put coins in them to see them acting (including
the Rainy Cadillac).
The Dali Joies collection is on permanent exhibition at the Dali Theatre-Museum. Together with the 39 original jewels,
the drawings and paintings made by Salvador Dali for the design of each one are also on display, thus making an extraordinary
ensemble produced by the artist between 1932 and 1970.
On our way from the train station to the museum we noticed a shop, that looked a bit unusual:
