Chicago
October 5-7, 2002
It started from the airport. Two of our friends Marisa and Elizabeth
met us driving the fancy but small Volkswagen cabriolet. We had all our
baggage with us: four huge heavy bags (only one fit the trunk) and two
backpacks. So we had to place all the rest on our knees. We filled the
car so that there was no place even for tiny mouse. But we had a perfect
drive along the very center of Chicago. Cabriolet provided us a wonderful
view of the famous skyscrapers. That was very impressive.
We stayed in evanston, on the territory of the Northwestern University,
at the Elizabeth's apartment that she share with her friend (almost on the
coast of lake Michigan).
That night we had beautiful tour around the university's campos, that
our friend Ai made for us.We were amazed with sizes of facilities and
friendly atmosphere.
At night we had a good dinner with Elizabeth's mom and all friends.
The whole next day we spent walking around Chicago which confirmed our previous impressions as the huge megapolis —
the mixture of all kinds of people. Everything is so high around, so pressing so all the feelings were so new and
unusual to us.
We have been to the top of the Sear's Tower (103-rd floor) and enjoyed the great view.
One of the most impressive things in Chicago is the lake Michigan. It is so big as a sea.
We also saw the collection of the Art And History Museum in Chicago,
enjoyed impressionists and postimpressionists a lot, and we also appreciated
stained-glasses by Mark Chagal.
At night we met with our friends and had wonderful dinner in the "Cheesecake Factory" restaurant.
The next morning we had to fly to Washington DC, where our other friends were waiting for us. Bye, Chicago! We hope
to see you again!
