San Antonio
September 18, 2002 - October 11, 2002
San Antonio was our first destination point. Here we first time had a
rest after 18-hour flight from St. Petersburg through Frankfurt on Main
and Chicago.
During our 18 days in San Antonio we had quite busy schedule. Dasha went
several times to meet people who may want to take part in mission trips
to Russia, to tell them about missionary activity in Russia. The rest
of time we spent visiting our friends and different places of the city.
One evening we went to Majestic theatre to listen to
San Antonio Symphony Orchestra. It was very nice and funny. After that
we had a walk across San Antonio river. It was nice,
that we went there in the evening — all these restaurants,
bridges and trees shining with lights, make so calming and exciting atmosphere
at the same time. We returned there several times (but at noon).
Dasha enjoyed San Antonio Zoo. It is so pleasant that it
is allowed to feed some animals. But we think that animals need much mo
space the the Zoo.
We both were impressed with amount of green vegetation in the city (especially
at the end of September). It was also pleasant to see the Japanese
Tea Garden. It was built in the derelict lime-pit and now it
looks beautiful. There are even huge fishes and turtles swimming in the
pond there.
Our friend Trent showed us famous San Antonio Missions.
We had a small tour across them but now we know how hard was missionary
work many years ago (and it remains not to be easy nowadays).
And of course, being in San Antonio we did not miss the opportunity to visit
Fiesta Texas. Dasha tried all the roller-coasters.
Also we spent some time in the shops. Shopping in the
U.S. is amazing! All the salespersons are so attentive and pleasant, and
everybody smiles (in Russia nobody smiles in shops)!
While we were living in Larry's house we saw his children returning from
school happy, laughing and smiling. It was a bit unusual,
because school at our country (when we studied there) did not make kids
happy (the opposite). But after visiting two of the San Antonio Schools
everything has become clear. Schools look so neat and clean, classes are
cozy. Everything was made to make kids feeling like being at home.
United States is really a country of realized opportunities. I always
dreamed to be taken picture on the rear sit of a Police car.
And I did it!
Moreover, we also have pictures in the fire-engine. We (especially me) appreciated
the kindness of the people who allowed us to do this very much.
All the time we spent in San Antonio we felt like being at home.
